"When I was a kid,
it felt like I was fighting for my parents' appreciation.
Nowadays, it feels like I am fighting for the appreciation of the entire world."

Working from home is finally coming home
"Into a wider world" is an ambitious project, produced by a group of international young film makers. In a time of Covid-19, we tried not to limit ourselves by what couldn't be done. We tried to see what could still be done. It's a completely independent production, made without the help of grants, funds or other income from outside parties. A work without any outside influence: in which we could keep complete control of the entire production. Something that started out of the sheer passion of it's makers. To create something we are proud of.
Set during a video call in 2021, it tells the story of a Dutch girl applying for a job at an innovative American Urban Planning-company. What starts as an image-obsessed interview, slowly moves towards a genuine talk that explores the true reasons those people present are there that day, during that job interview.
Filmed almost entirely via webcams, it's a production about a new world, in which talking to people from across the globe via a screen is a normal thing. It's a very different world from the one in which a lot of us grew up in. We probably felt it would have been bizarre - and even nowadays, this reality can still feel alienating. Sometimes, it can indeed feel like moving into a wider world.
